On a lush, green May day, the Shipping Business Subdivision got together. They decided to organize a sports event where everyone would volunteer to sweat and compete. It was a simple event with only two sports, dodgeball and futsal, but the passion and enthusiasm was said to be as high as a professional game. Glovis+ captured the fun and excitement of the event.
On the afternoon of Friday, May 17, the sky was blue and a pleasant breeze was blowing, and the Shipping Business Subdivision’s Spring Sports Day was held. The Shipping Business Subdivision is busy working around the clock to develop Hyundai Glovis’ logistics at sea, and this day was expected to be an opportunity to take a break from work and take care of their health, as well as strengthen teamwork through running and moving sports activities with colleagues.
After finishing work earlier than usual, members of the Shipping Business Subdivision gathered at the Seoul Forest Multipurpose Stadium. The Spring Cheerfulness Competition was to be a departmental competition, with the women’s teams (two teams from the PCTC Business Group and Bulk Cargo Divisions) playing dodge ball and the men’s teams (PCTC Business Group 1, PCTC Business Group 2, and the combined Shipping Business Strategy Group and Bulk Carrier Division) playing futsal. Before the games began, the team members stretched to loosen their tight bodies and tied loose sneaker laces.
The first game has finally started in a friendly atmosphere! Dodgeball is best of three, best of two, with each set lasting five minutes, and the team with the most players left in the field wins. The dodgeball game was mixed, with the men participating under the rule that they could only play defense. The atmosphere was awkward at first, but as they passed the ball back and forth, the excitement grew. The dodgeball game was won by the Bulk Carrier Division, who won twice in a row.
Soon after, the main event of the day, Futsal, began. Futsal was played for 20 minutes with a total of three teams in a three-on-three match with eight players per team. The first match was between PCTC Business Group 1 and the Shipping Business Strategy + Bulk Carrier Division. The game was fast-paced from the start. The players encouraged each other by shouting “block” and “go all the way” and showed their skills like professional players. The game ended in a draw as the goalies of both teams blocked powerful shots.
The match between PCTC Business Group 1 and PCTC Business Group 2 continued. The players of PCTC Business Group 1, who had just finished their match, were not tired and ran around the field with great energy. The blue vests of PCTC Business Group 2 didn’t let the momentum slow them down, attacking quickly and earning a free kick. Unfortunately, they couldn’t convert it, but they immediately scored the first goal and took the lead. Five minutes before the end of the game, when it looked like the game was over, the first team scored the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1.
As the game progressed, so did the cheering. They let out an audible gasp when the ball missed the goal and cheered loudly when a player made a brave play. During the breaks, they brought cool drinks to encourage them.
Before we knew it, the third match of the futsal tournament had begun to determine the winner. The two teams, PCTC Business Group 2 and the combined Shipping Business Strategy Group and Bulk Carrier Division, went into the match with high tension. However, shortly after the start of the game, the combined Shipping Business Strategy Group and Bulk Carrier Division scored the first goal and followed it up with a second goal to become the eventual winners.
After working so hard that their jerseys were drenched in sweat, the players had enough energy to play an extra game, the All-Star Game. It was inspiring to see them give their best until their legs were cramping. Everyone in the Shipping Business Subdivision applauded and cheered for the players, who gave their best until the end. Some people were surprised that there were so many soccer masters with such strong skills. Executive director Kim Tae-woo, the executive vice president of the company, was also very popular as a player and referee.
After all the games, the members of the Shipping Business Subdivision cleaned up neatly and moved to the dinner venue. They shared delicious food, recapped the games, and had a fun time of harmony. Awards were given to the winning teams and supporters. The winning futsal team received red ginseng, the winning mixed dodgeball team received a wine and tea set, and the cheering team received liquor.
The 2024 Shipping Business Subdivision Spring Cheerfulness Campaign was a time to enjoy and laugh together, regardless of victory or defeat. It was also a precious memory that reminded us of the value of unity and communicating as one.

“It’s my first time at a company sports day, so I’m excited and nervous. We didn’t get to practice dodgeball, but I came out with the attitude of ‘It’s a game, let’s win! It’s a game, don’t get me wrong. It’s not an official activity, but I’ve been mountain climbing with my room leader and general manager. You get to know people quickly when you’re working out and sweating, so I’m looking forward to more opportunities like today.”
“It’s nice to be able to get the whole Shipping Business Subdivision together on a nice day like today and have a good time, and I hope nobody gets hurt in the end. I’ve been told that my division has a reputation for being a weak football team, and I’m going to do my best to dispel that notion.”
“Since the COVID-19 pandemic, sports activities at the Shipping Business Subdivision level have been limited. I am glad that we have been able to resume them under the direction of the Business Director, so I have planned this cheerful sports event. I hope that no one will get hurt because we have worked hard to prepare. I am participating in the soccer game as a member of the combined Shipping Business Strategy Group and Bulk Carrier Division. Our team has a strategy of playing defense rather than forcing the offense. We will do our best to follow the strategy!
“Today was a friendly competition, so it was fun whether we won or lost. In fact, we were told that the two cargo ships had the strongest power, so it’s a shame that we didn’t win, but I’d like to participate again if we have the opportunity to do something like this as a team. Personally, I enjoyed it the most when we scored a goal to tie the game when our team was losing. It was a great stress reliever after all the exercise and laughing around the office. Although the Shipping Business Subdivision is horizontal and friendly between seniors and juniors, it would be nice to have more events like today, and all the employees in the Shipping Business Subdivision are busy working day and night, so I hope we can make the division even better.
“I was the fastest to join the team and was given the role of captain. Although we lost 2-0 in dodge ball, it was a fun and refreshing experience to bring seniors and juniors together. I was especially impressed by the men’s futsal game today and found myself cheering for them. I participated in a cheerful exercise session with my teammates an hour before work, and I think it will improve my work efficiency because it refreshes me and builds relationships with other members. I don’t usually have the opportunity to interact with other rooms, so I look forward to going out for dinner and drinks afterwards.”
